Collision between bicyclist and vehicle

A bicyclist was struck by a Honda Fit last night on Capitol Hill.  The Honda Fit was heading south on Boren Avenue, near Pine Street and the bicyclist was heading west on Pine Street.  Accident occurred around 5:13pm.

The bike rider was treated by the Seattle Fire Medics and then later taken to Harborview Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.  The other driver was interviewed and later released by authorities.  Detectives found no sign of alcohol or drugs as being a factor in the collision.

Bicycle-vehicle accidents are so destructive because drivers usually caution for other vehicles, not bikes. What's worse is the harm that is done to the bicyclist because, unlike drivers, they are not protected by the walls of a vehicle. Drivers need to keep an eye out for all users of the road, and bicyclists need to obey traffic laws in the same way that drivers are required to.
